Incredible Life Changing Lessons from The Alchemist

Paulo Coelho’s “The Alchemist,” is a fable based on a story of a shepherd boy Santiago who travels to Egypt after having a recurring dream about a hidden treasure. The Alchemist has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide and got translated into 71 different languages,  which makes it an international bestseller.

The journey of the shepherd boy in search of gold gives us a really strong and powerful message, almost life-changing. If you haven’t read this book, I strongly recommend you do, because not only is it incredibly amazing, it may also change your outlook on life, and a very few books can do that.

Here are few of the quotes from The Alchemist that will put you in thought, the writer has indirectly taught the untold lessons of life. And I consider myself lucky for being blessed to read such an amazing book.

Life Changing Lessons from The Alchemist :

“My heart is afraid it will have to suffer,” the boy told the Alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky.  “Tell your heart the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream.”

There’s a hidden lesson in this conversation between the shepherd boy and the alchemist, mostly dreamers fear to suffer,  they fear that their heart would be broken, but the writer explains that no suffering is greater than the fear of suffering and that there’s no suffering in traveling the path towards your dreams. Because the heart is most happy when you listen to its longings.

“And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

The first step to achieving your dream is to believe in your self, your potentials and the power of the universe. Once you’ve declared your dedication towards a dream, the entire universe will help you find it.

“The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.”

To see through the eyes of the wise means to appreciate the simple things in life, because sometimes, extraordinary happiness can be found in the most ordinary things.

“People are capable at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.”

Age doesn’t matter as long as you have the courage to dream. And as long as you have the courage, anything is possible. Therefore, don’t step back from your dream, thinking that it’s too late, its never too late.

“There is one great truth on this planet: whoever you are or whatever it is that you do when you really want something. its because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It’s your mission on earth.”

Nothing happens without a reason, if you dreamed a certain thing, it’s because the universe wanted you to achieve it. It all depends on how bad you want it and how much you’re willing to sacrifice to make a dream come true.

“To realize one’s destiny is a person only obligation”

Paulo explains to his readers in the simplest of words, to dream is a daring thing, its a necessity, it helps you discover who you are, your purpose, therefore it is an obligation.

“You will never be able to escape your heart. So it is better to listen to what it has to say.”

Do not ignore the calling of the heart, it may seem like it has given up, but sooner or later it will keep questioning you of the things you have chosen to turn away from. It will keep calling you towards your dream, and no power on earth can stop this calling from reaching your ears. Don’t try to escape your heart, or regret will become your fate.

“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”

To struggle towards betterment with a goal in your mind can change you completely, and when you change, you hold the power to change your surroundings, your life and everything in it.

Take these quotes an incorporate them in your life, you’ll see positive results, because no matter what, change starts from within, choose to change for the better and never give up on your dreams.
